I loved your "cheshire cat" description of him. Real tameles wrapped in corn shucks!
I ate Mexican food before I ever had Chinese food and still have a tooth for the stuff.
I like El Caporal, across the street from Regency Square, although it sounds like I'll like TdS even better. It has plenty of Latino clientele as well as us gringo(a)s.
Jason, thanks for stopping by my frugalRVA site. Let's trade bargain strategies! I used to facilitate a simplicity circle and have always been able to find bargains, so I'm pretty up on the bargain 'thang. Did you check out my listings of thrift shops and ethnic food shops?
Mary E.L. in RVAMELhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17180221134415438656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35720139.post-52828631622974737392007-06-23T10:20:00.000-04:002007-06-23T10:20:00.000-04:00Well, you make me want to try both places. Being a townie I have a thing about going to the West End, unless I can combine it with other chores or a visit with friends. Shall keep it in mind though. Another supremely tasty bunch-a-tacos. Nate was out of potato tacos today, but he enlightened me about why I didn't recognize any potatoes in my favorite filling. He shreds the spuds on a mandoline and sautes them with oodles of savory ingredients. I may just have to try that at home. Karen got a chicken taco and dug the moist shredded meat. Although I couldn't coax a descriptive analysis out of her, I actually caught her slurpping up the juice that collected in the foil beneath the tortilla. That's probably a testamonial of sorts. Don't know when we'll both have off on a weekday again. With today's perfect weather, it was a great way to spend a lunch break. Sittin' and a slurpin'.RVA Foodiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16214920696412259243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35720139.post-59128309733821212532007-06-19T00:01:00.000-04:002007-06-19T00:01:00.000-04:00Well, the above comment really picked up my slack....Well, the above comment really picked up my slack. Thank you, whoever you are. Next time Karen and I go to del Sol, I'm sure she's gonna grab the Pastor, since our Tacos al Pastor experience in Puebla was so transcendent (I mean los dios came down from las estrellas with each bite).

Personally, I'm going to double check the huevos and maybe ask for a "vegetariano tipico del Mexico" and see what the server recommends.

On a side note, Karen went to 7-11 and they had an "Horchata flavor" coffee. Have you heard of that? Wow. Most of the US doesn't know what horchata is. As for the flavor, "it was just cinnamon" according to Karen.RVA Foodiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16214920696412259243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35720139.post-22449938825412671062007-06-10T12:52:00.000-04:002007-06-10T12:52:00.000-04:00We just discovered this place yesterday, on a quic...We just discovered this place yesterday, on a quick trip to Tuesday Morning. I can't pass by anyplace with "taqueria" in the name without giving a try.

When we saw the little taco menus you mentioned, and saw the horchata machine running, we had a feeling we were in the right place. Here is a rundown of the meat tacos we tried:

Carne Asada: Great grilled flavor. Probably the least adventurous taco on the menu, and well worth the visit alone.

Pastor: This may be the best "Pastor" flavor available in Richmond. A must if you eat meat!

Carnitas: Tender morsels of pork, the world's best meat.

Lengua: Cow tongue has never been prepared so delicately. This can be a tough and chewy affair elsewhere, but not at TdS. Like properly prepared calamari, the lengua bits had just a hint of spring, al dente.

If I had known that "hidago" meant "liver," I would have tried that too! We phone-cammed the menu to look up some of the more exotic items, and I can't wait to make it back.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
